Stockton Downed by Montclair State 51-35

Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (8-11, 6-7 NJAC) was downed by Montclair State (11-7, 8-4 NJAC) 51-35 in a conference road game that was pushed back two days due to a snowstorm. Freshman Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) was the lone Osprey in double figures with 11 points.

LaRosa also grabbed five rebounds and pilfered a game-high four steals. Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) contributed eight points and three assists while playing 39 of the game's 40 minutes.

Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) tied for game-high honors with 10 rebounds and scored four points. Kadinah Harris-Hood (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) went 2-2 from beyond the arc for six points but Stockton struggled to find the range overall, shooting just 11-55 (20%) from the floor.

The first quarter was the best for the Ospreys as they broke out to an 8-2 lead behind five points by Morrone and a three-ball by LaRosa. Stockton never trailed in the opening stanza, which ended with them holding a 12-10 edge.

Harris-Hood opened the second period scoring with a three-pointer that made it 15-10, but the offense sputtered from there. Montclair State outscored the Ospreys 15-6 the rest of the quarter to take a 25-21 lead into halftime.

The deficit reached 12 in the third period before Stockton tried to rally with a 7-1 spurt on two free throws by LaRosa followed by five points from Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/TR East) to pull within 36-30. The comeback stalled as the Red Hawks scored the next five points for a 41-30 count after three.

The Ospreys were unable to mount a charge in the fourth quarter as MSU continued to pull away for a 51-35 final score. Nickie Carter paced the home team with a game-high 17 points.

Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at The College of New Jersey that tips off at 6 p.m.
