Stockton Falls to Ramapo 2-1

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-7, 0-4 NJAC) could not hold an early lead and dropped a 2-1 match to Ramapo College (10-3, 2-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon in front a huge crowd. Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) tallied the lone goal for the Ospreys.

The home team broke the scoreless deadlock in the first period, when Stockton got a penalty corner. On the insert, Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) took a shot from the top of the circle. Palumbo tipped in the marker for her fourth of the season and the lead. Palumbo had a penalty stroke at 6:33 of the first period but her attempt clanged off the post and the match remained at 1-0.

Neither team could score the rest of the half, until the Roadrunners knotted the match on a penalty stroke, by Katie Yarussi in the third period to make it 1-1. Eight minutes into the final frame, the visitors had a penalty corner that they took advantage of. Allison Tanasy inserted the ball to Mariah Tovar, who found Tanasy for the tip in and the 1-1 lead.

Ramapo's defense stiffened the rest of the way, and the Roadrunners came away with the 2-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made three saves for Stockton.

Michelle Kukan kicked out five shots in goal for Ramapo earning the win.

The Ospreys will travel to Ewing, NJ for their next match, as Stockton will face The College of New Jersey on Wednesday. Game time is 4 pm.
