Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-11) finished up the 2022 season with a home game against Alvernia University (13-5) that was decided on a goal by the visitors in the fourth quarter that sent the Ospreys to a 2-1 defeat.
All of the scoring came in the second half, with the Ospreys getting on the board first. With 4:25 gone in the third quarter,
Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to put Stockton on top 1-0.
On a penalty corner, Palumbo took a pass from
Makenna LeHenaff (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) and blasted a shot into the cage from the top of the arc. The lead lasted 4:30 before Brooke Spezialetti tied the game on a penalty stroke.
After yielding a goal on a Stockton penalty corner in the third quarter, Alvernia capitalized on a penalty corner of its own in the fourth period. Just 3:45 into the final stanza, Kathryn Palmer netted the game-winner by one-timing a pass from Spezialetti into the net.
Stockton generated two shots and one corner in the last six minutes but could not convert and suffered the 2-1 setback in the season finale.
Ospreys' goaltender
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made eight saves in the game. Palumbo and
Ameera Bilgrami (Voorhees/Eastern) registered one defensive save apiece. Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher finished with five saves.
