Morristown, N.J. – Stockton University (2-0) built a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and stayed in front by double digits for all but 43 seconds of the rest of the game for a 73-52 victory over St. Elizabeth (0-2). All five Osprey starters scored in double figures.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) led Stockton with a career-high 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Morrone shot 5-7 from the field. Freshman
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) went 3-4 from three-point range and scored 13 points.
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) contributed 12 points followed by
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) with 11 markers, nine of which came at the free throw line. Freshman
Nicole Strumolo (Denville/Morris Catholic) netted 10 points as she and Fathi hit double figures for the first time.
Fathi sank three three-pointers in the final five minutes of the first quarter to propel the Ospreys to a 21-7 lead after one period. Stockton shot a blistering 8-10 (80%) from the field in the second quarter and each team scored 22 points, resulting in a 43-29 lead at the break.
The lead reached 20 at 54-34 on a layup by Fathi a little past the midway point of the third quarter. The Ospreys were in front 58-39 after three periods and cruised to the 73-52 win.
Alani Jones tied Morrone for game-high honors with 15 points for St. Elizabeth.
Stockton will play its home opener on November 17, hosting Eastern University at 6:30 p.m.
