Allentown, Pa. – The Stockton University cross country teams each produced their best finish ever at NCAA Regionals. The Osprey women placed third out of 24 teams while the Stockton men were eighth out of 25 squads at the NCAA Metro Regionals, which were hosted by DeSales University.
Cooper Knorr (Manalapan/Manalapan) became the first Osprey male to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Abad Akhtar in 2010.
Jaelyn Barkley (Hope/Belvidere) became the first Stockton female to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Alicia Belko in 2017.
Stockton's top four finishers in the women's race all qualified for All-Region honors. Barkley finished seventh out of 170 in the women's 6K race with a time of 23:27. Freshman
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/County Prep) placed 16th at 24:05 and
Jessie Klenk (Somerdale/Sterling) ran 24:25 for 29th place.
Freshman
Guinevere Kennedy (South Amboy/South Amboy) finished 10 seconds later in 35th place at 24:35.
Rachel Hayes (Marlboro/St. John Vianney) made it three freshmen in Stockton's top five by placing 40th with a time of 24:51.
Knorr finished 10th out of 176 runners in the men's race with a time of 21:18.
Erik Ackerman (Long Valley/West Morris Central) ran 26:44 and finished 29th. By placing in the top 35, Knorr and Ackerman qualified for All-Region recognition.
Brandon Shymanski (Brick/Brick Memorial) placed 43rd at 27:11, and a pair of rookies rounded out Stockton's top five.
Shane McDevitt (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) finished 58th with a time of 27:40 and
Dalton Culleny (Mullica Twp./Cedar Creek) followed three seconds later at 27:43 for 60th place.
The NCAA Regionals were the final team event for Stockton. Barkley and Knorr will compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Lansing, Mich. next Saturday, November 19.
