Stockton Tops Widener 67-56

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (4-1) built a 14-point lead in the first 12 minutes of the game and held off Widener University (3-2) in the second half for a 67-56 victory. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led three Ospreys in double figures with a game-high 23 points.
 
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) shot 5-9 (55.6%) from the floor and finished with 12 points. Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) chipped in 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
 
Anguelov went 3-5 (60%) from three-point range, as did Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) for his nine markers. Flanders ended the game with 998 career points.
 
Campbell and Anguelov each scored eight points to spark the Ospreys to a 28-14 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game. Widener responded with three consecutive baskets to make it 28-20, but Campbell scored seven more points and Flanders sank two three-pointers to propel Stockton to a 41-28 lead at half.
 
Campbell led all players with 15 first-half points and seven of Stockton's 17 field goals came from beyond the arc.
 
The Ospreys cooled off in the second half, shooting just 30.4 percent (7-23) from the field including 3-10 (30%) outside the arc. Stockton was efficient at the line, going 9-10 led by Campbell who was a perfect 6-6.
 
Widener chipped away at the Stockton lead, eventually closing within 52-48 with 8:51 remaining. The Ospreys then put the game away with an 11-2 run on five points by Dawkins and three-pointers from Anguelov and Flanders.
 
The spurt gave Stockton a 63-50 advantage with 3:15 on the clock and the Ospreys went on to the 67-56 triumph.
 
Steven Matlack and Dominic Dunn hit double figures for Widener with 13 and 12 points respectively.
 
Stockton will jump back into conference play with a home game against Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
