New York, N.Y. – Stockton University (8-4) led by eight points late in the third quarter but was outscored 31-13 the rest of the way and fell to St. Joseph's-Long Island (5-3) 66-56 at the NYU Holiday Classic. The Ospreys surrendered 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) led Stockton with a season-high 20 points. LaRosa sank four three-pointers and also grabbed five rebounds.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Two Ospreys reached double figures on the glass as
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) tied for game-high honors with 12 rebounds and
Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) snatched 10 boards. Jennings also scored eight points.
LaRosa went 3-3 with two three-pointers for eight points to spark Stockton to a 20-14 lead after one quarter. The Ospreys led 26-16 midway through the second period before St. Joseph's-LI closed the gap to 31-27 at the half.
In the third quarter, a layup by Dulude gave Stockton a 43-35 advantage with 3:35 on the clock, but the Golden Eagles scored the last seven points of the period to pull within 43-42 after three.
The fourth stanza was tight, with the Ospreys trailing 53-50 with 2:57 to play. A three-pointer by LaRosa followed by two free throws from Morrone put Stockton on top 55-53 at the 1:34 mark. St. Joseph's hit a three-pointer but Morrone sank a free throw for a 56-56 tie with 1:15 remaining.
Unfortunately, the Ospreys did not score again. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead on a layup and then went a perfect 8-8 at the line to down Stockton 66-56.
Lanyah Ford scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead St. Joseph's. Alyssa Adomaites poured in 17 markers for the victors.
Stockton will jump back into conference play with an NJAC game at The College of New Jersey on January 4 at 5 p.m.
