Stockton Loses Opener in Overtime 15-14

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (0-1) opened the 2022 season in a tough manner, as the Ospreys fell to DeSales University (1-0) 15-14 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.  Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) led the team with three goals and two assists for five points in the match.
 
Stockton opened the scoring on a Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) tally from Ryan Anderson (Avon-by-the-Sea/Manasquan), at 10:49 to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. After a pair of Bulldogs scores, Poli snared his first goal of the day to knot the game at 1-1, but the visitors notched three more markers in the last 2:57 of the first period to take a 6-2 margin after one frame.
 
DeSales added another goal to begin period number two before Stockton hit the net three straight times. Two goals by Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) and one by Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) drew the Ospreys within one at 6-5 with eight minutes left in the half. Two more tallies by the Bulldogs offset another goal by Swedlund, as the home squad trailed by 8-6 at the break.
 
DeSales opened a three-goal margin at 9-6 to start the third quarter, but Stockton answered with four of the next five goals to tie the match at 10-10. Two goals by Stanley Kolimago (Lansdale, PA/Methacton), with Poli and Matt Gibson (Cape May Point/Lower Cape May) adding the other markers. It was Gibson's first career goal. The Bulldogs hit the net to end the period, up by one at 11-10.
 
Stockton surged with three goals to start the fourth period on goals by D'Arminio, Poli and Capozzoli to forge 13-11 lead with 10:31 remaining in regulation. The visitors were resilient as they tallied a trio of goals, that offset the first career goal with 1:16 left by Brendan McSorley (Mantua/Clearview). The Bulldogs scored with 35 seconds left to send the game to the extra frame.
 
With 1:38 left in the overtime, Jalen Holmes sent the Bulldogs to victory with the final score and the 15-14 win.
 
Swedlund (3 goals, one assist) and Capozzoli (2 goals, 2 assists) tallied four points each to back Poli. Logan Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.), Poli and Matt Thermann (Spring Lakes Heights/Manasquan) all scooped four ground balls, with Poli topping the team with three caused turnovers.  Eric Lindskog (Montville/Montville) made 13 saves in net for the Ospreys.
 
DeSales was led by TJ Herron with four goals and two assists for six points. Zach Bowen (four goals) and Pat Schuett (3 goals, 1 assist) tallied four points each. Zach Broomall led all players with 15 ground balls. TJ Lowe, the third netminder of the day for the Bulldogs made three saves and garnered the win.
 
The Ospreys will take on Elizabethtown next Saturday for their next match. Game time is set for 1pm in Galloway.
