Stockton Runs Away with 83-60 Victory over DeSales

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (18-4, 12-3 NJAC) pulled away with a huge second half and posted a convincing 83-60 win over DeSales University (19-3) in a non-conference game on Monday night.  DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) continued his hot scoring with a game-high 23 points, his third consecutive game over the 20-point mark.

The Bulldogs started strong, scoring the first five markers before the Ospreys answered with 10 straight points. Three-pointers by Campbell and Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) were the key baskets during the spurt.

Stockton continued to add to the advantage, stretching the lead to 11 on two occasions before the visitors fought back. The Ospreys held a 32-21 lead with 4:17 remaining in the first stanza, but a tight zone defense by the Bulldogs stifled Stockton. DeSales held the Ospreys scoreless in those final minutes while scoring nine points to close the margin to 32-30 in favor of Stockton at the break.

DeSales kept the pressure up to start the second half, re-taking the lead at 38-34 at the 17:21 mark. The Ospreys knotted the game at 40-40 with 16:36 remaining but the visitors were able to take a slim 43-42 advantage with 14:42 left in regulation. It would be the last time DeSales would have the advantage.

A pair of three balls by Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood), one by Milo De Los Santos (Hopewell Valley/Hopewell Valley) and a layup by Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) pushed the home squad to a 53-43 lead with 11:26 left.

DeSales cut the lead to 53-49 but that was as close as they would come. Over the final 10:33 of the game, Stockton outscored the Bulldogs 30-11 to run away with the 80-63 victory.

Campbell also led all players with five steals to go along with his 23-point outburst. Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) added his first career double-double, while tying his career highs with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lawrence also had four assists and two steals. Flanders chipped in with 10 points and Azoroh pulled down a game-high 11 boards, with Dawkins dishing a game-high five assists.

DeSales was led by Matt Kachelries scoring 12 points, with Dat Lambert adding 10 markers. Timmy Edwards grabbed 10 rebounds, with Keba Mitchell blocking a game-high eight shots.

Stockton will face Kean University on Wednesday night at home as the Ospreys return to NJAC play. It will be Senior Night and the game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
