Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockton University student-athletes were selected for NJAC weekly awards for March 7-13. Junior
Mike Schiattarella (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) earned NJAC Pitcher of the Week in baseball while freshman
Sophia Pasquale (Galloway/Holy Spirit) was named NJAC Rookie of the Week for women's tennis. It is the first NJAC honor for both athletes.
Schiattarella had a remarkable outing as he tossed a perfect game with 14 strikeouts against Western New England in Auburndale, Florida yesterday. The righty threw just the 24th perfect game in NCAA Division III history.
Schiattarella was dominant as he struck out the first eight batters that he faced and later closed the door by fanning six of the last nine in facing the minimum 21 hitters during the seven-inning contest. The perfect game was the first-ever by an Osprey.
Schiattarella earned his second win of the year, tossed his third complete game, and lowered his ERA to a minuscule 0.90. The junior has struck out 38 hitters in just 20 innings thus far.
Pasquale remained unbeaten in singles play with a pair of wins yesterday in Hilton Head, S.C. The rookie won at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-1 over Geneseo and then 6-0, 6-2 over Webster to extend her record to 5-0.
In addition, Pasquale teamed with
Brynn Bowman to win 8-2 and 8-1 at No. 3 doubles in the two matches, bringing her doubles mark to 5-2 in her freshman season.
