Stockton Uses Balanced Scoring to Down Misericordia 19-14

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-2) won their second straight match with a 19-14 decision over Misericordia (6-2) on Saturday afternoon. Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) led four Ospreys with three or more goals, with four scores and added three assists for a game-high seven points on the day.

Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) opened the scoring with a marker just 24 seconds into the game for a quick 1-0 lead. Poli scored his first of the day for a 2-0 margin, before the Cougars answered with a pair for a 2-2 tie with10:01 left in the first period.

Stanley Kolimago (Lansdale, PA/Methacton), Poli and Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) scored goals to offset two more by Misericordia for a 5-4 lead at the end of the frame.

Stockton posted four straight markers to begin the second period, with two each coming from Smallwood and Poli. Swedlund and Kolimago ended the six-goal outburst to give the Ospreys a commanding 11-6 lead at the break.

The Cougars began the second half with a pair of tallies to slice the margin to 11-8, before Kolimago, Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) and Aidan Shandley (Springfield, PA/Springfield-Delco) gave Stockton the margin back at 14-9, as the period ended 15-10 in favor of the Ospreys.

The visitors began to gain momentum to start the final period as they hit the net four times to offset a Swedlund tally to cut the lead to 16-14 with 9:58 to play. But that was as close as Misericordia would come, as Brendan McHale (Montville/Montville) scored his first career goal at Stockton, on an assist from Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City).

Levy Smith, from Capozzoli, then Smallwood on a helper from Swedlund finished off the scoring to give the Ospreys the 19-14 victory.

Kolimago and Smallwood both scored four times with Swedlund adding a hat trick of three goals in support of Poli. Smallwood's total was a career-high in a game. Capozzoli dished three assists, with Kolimago adding a helper for a five-point day.

Stockton goalkeeper Eric Lindskog (Montville/Montville) stopped 12 shots for the win. It was the fifth time in six games he has posted double-digit saves.

Defender Logan Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) grabbed nine ground balls with a game-high three caused turnovers, while Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) won 23-33 faceoffs for a .697 winning percentage and scooped a game-high 10 ground balls.

For Misericordia, Carson Venis and Ryan Vandenberg scored four goals each, with Robert Wagner dishing four assists. Starting goalkeeper Chris Straub, took the loss, playing the first 17:08 making seven saves. Matt Coates, who finished up and kicked out eight shots.

Stockton's next game will be next Wednesday, when the Ospreys will travel to Aston, Pa to face off against Neumann University. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
