Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (25-4) rolled into the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament with an 87-52 rout over Wilson College (18-8) on Friday afternoon.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) scored a career-high 33 points, including his 1,000th career point early in the contest.
Stockton, who never trailed in the game, scored the first nine points on a pair of three-pointers by Campbell and another by
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley), before the Phoenix got on the board. Campbell hit the 1,000 mark with his second trey.
The visitors crawled back to within one point at 16-15 with 9:21 left in the half before the Ospreys put the pedal down and sprinted away. A 13-0 run with Campbell tallying seven points and Dawkins adding five markers gave Stockton a commanding 29-15 lead.
Milo De Los Santos (Hopewell Valley/Hopewell Valley) punctuated the 25-5 outburst with a three ball to end the first half with a 41-20 advantage at the break. Campbell led all scorers with 15 at the break.
The Ospreys continued their assault on the basket pushing the lead to 55-25 on a Dawkins three-pointer. From there, the lead was at least 21 and as much as 37 the rest of the way. Both teams cleared their respective benches late as Stockton came away with the 87-52 victory and moved on to the second round.
Campbell, who shot 13-23 (56.5%) from the field, with 7-13 (53.8%) from three-point land, also led the Ospreys with nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks to go with his career-high scoring. Dawkins posted his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 assists, one off his career-best, plus six boards.
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds and a pair of steals. All 15 Ospreys in uniform saw action the convincing win.
Wilson College was led by Antonio Bussey with 13 points, two blocks and nine rebounds. Darryl Garib and Warrick Godwin, Jr. added 10 points apiece.
Stockton will face Johns Hopkins, who downed Yeshiva University 63-59 earlier in the day. The second-round game will be played in Galloway at 4:30 pm.
