Galloway, N.J. – Four Stockton University student-athletes were selected for weekly honors for their play during February 28- March 6.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) was selected NJAC Player of the Week in men's basketball for the second time this year after leading Stockton to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) picked up her second career NJAC Defensive Player of the Week award in women's lacrosse and freshman
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) was chosen NJAC Rookie of the Week for baseball.
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) completed the quartet with his selection as CSAC Player of the Week in men's lacrosse.
Campbell had a tremendous week, averaging 30.5 points per game in leading the Ospreys over Wilson College 87-52 and #10 Johns Hopkins 70-63 in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Campbell tallied a career-high 33 points against Wilson, then added a 28-point effort against the Blue Jays, including his 1,000th career point.
In addition, Campbell topped the team with a total of five steals and grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game. He shot 46.7 percent (21-45) from the field while averaging 38.4 minutes per game. Stockton will face #4 Christopher Newport at 4 pm on Friday at Marietta College (Ohio) in the NCAA Tournament sectional round.
Toal tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers and filled the stat sheet with 11 ground balls plus eight draw controls. The senior also pumped in a team-leading eight goals with two assists for 10 points in Stockton's two games. She previously earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once in 2020.
Nitti led the Ospreys in hitting during the three games last week, batting .500 (6-12), and driving in the first two RBI of his career. The rookie hit safely in all three contests, highlighted by a 3-5 performance and his first college RBI against Alvernia. Nitti has started all five games for Stockton and is hitting a robust .421 (8-19).
Swedlund scored a game-high six goals, half of Stockton's total, in a 12-9 victory over Washington College (Md.) on Saturday. The senior's second marker of the game was his 200th career goal as he became the first Osprey ever to reach the 200-goal mark. Swedlund leads Stockton with 11 goals in three games this season.
