Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (16-20-1, 6-9 NJAC) saw a late lead slip away and fell to Rowan University (28-6, 14-2 NJAC) 10-6 on Thursday afternoon. Freshman Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) led the Ospreys attack with a perfect 4-4 at the plate and scored three times. The Profs are ranked #7 nationally in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA poll.

Stockton fell behind early trailing 2-1 after three innings, then plated one run in the fourth and a three-spot in the fifth for a 5-2 advantage. In the fifth inning uprising, Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) reached on an error and Nitti followed with a hit.

After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base, another Prof error allowed Sciarrotta to score. Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) doubled home both runners for the three-run lead.

Rowan sliced the lead to 5-4 heading to the seventh frame, before a double by Nitti and a sacrifice fly by Thomas Elgrim (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) pushed the Stockton margin to 6-4.

The Ospreys could not hold the lead as the home team scored six runs on six hits in the home seventh inning to take control of the contest. Stockton was unable to mount a comeback over the final two frames and fell by the 10-6 final score.

Meleo added two hits and two RBI, with Elgrim also batting in a pair of runs, giving him a team-high 28 RBI on the season.

For the Profs, Hunter Wroniuk and Trip McCaffrey had three hits each, with teammates Chris Curcio and Ryan Mostrangeli driving in three runs each.

Stockton will return home face Rowan in the home-and-home series tomorrow. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm in Galloway.
