Stockton Splits One-Run Games with Arcadia

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (22-16) split a pair of one-run games in a home doubleheader against Arcadia University (28-7). The Ospreys edged the Knights 1-0 in the first game but Arcadia returned the favor by nipping Stockton 4-3 in the second game.

Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) outdueled her counterpart Juliana Presto by pitching a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts in the opener. Tramp retired the first 17 batters that she faced before yielding a single in the sixth inning.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the sixth when Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) led off with a double. With two outs, Czaczkowski advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored on another wild pitch for the only run of the 1-0 Stockton victory.

Stockton managed just three hits off Presto. Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) and Vanessa Tancini (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) each singled in addition to Czaczkowski's double.

Czaczkowski and Gracie Meyer (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) each rapped two hits in the nightcap, including another double for Czaczkowski.

Arcadia started quickly, scoring three runs in the top of the first for a 3-0 lead. Stockton chipped away with an RBI double by Czaczkowski in the first inning, RBI single by James in the fourth, and sacrifice fly by Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) in the fifth that delivered the tying run at 3-3. James extended her hitting streak to 11 games with her single.

Arcadia scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and Presto, who had entered the game out of the bullpen in the fourth inning, retired Stockton in order in the bottom of the seventh for the 4-3 final.

Stockton will conclude the regular season by hosting Montclair State in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch of the opener is slated for 1 p.m.
