Brigantine, N.J. – Stockton University hosted the Stockton-Brigantine Boat Race over the weekend. The regatta was the first event hosted by the Ospreys since they relocated to the Brigantine Rowing Club Boathouse this spring. Time trials were held on Saturday followed by races in groups of two or three boats today.
Coxswain
Lorelei Hendricks (Burlington/Doane Academy) led a varsity eight of
Emily Culmone (Absecon/Ocean City),
Jordan Barikian (Cape May/Lower Cape May),
Madelynn Schina (Somerdale/Highland) and
Amber Hartzell (Merchantvillle/Haddon Hts.) in the first four seats.
The remainder of the varsity eight consisted of
Nicole Iatarola (Sewell/Washington Twp.),
Emily Latshaw (Toms River/TR South),
Izabelle DelRoss (Egg Harbor City/Cedar Creek) and
Carrie Alpin (North Hanover/Northern Burlington).
In the semifinals, Stockton rowed 6:58.08 to top Franklin & Marshall (7:04.25) in a head-to-head race and post the third-fastest time out of six. The Ospreys then notched a time of 7:08.35 in the finals that again was third out of six overall.
Kelley Mason (Manhattan, N.Y./St. Vincent Ferrer) was the coxswain for the second varsity eight that included
Katie Kurtz (Galloway/Cedar Creek),
Lauren Oleksiak (Brigantine/Holy Spirit),
Kimberly Canelas (Galloway/ACIT) and
Allison Cook (Mickleton/Kingsway) in the first four spots.
Hartzell, Iatarola,
Allison Reed (Cherry Hill/CH East) and
Alexandra Kazan (Vineland/OLMA) rounded out the second varsity eight. In the semifinals, Stockton finished second in its heat of three and second out of five overall with a time of 6:57.16. The Ospreys then registered 9:07.08 in the finals to defeat Franklin & Marshall (9:19.02) in their heat and place third out of four teams overall.
Stockton will compete in the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. next weekend on April 9-10.
