Stockton Falls Twice at Kean

Union, N.J. – Stockton University (10-10, 1-5 NJAC) suffered a pair of defeats in a conference doubleheader at Kean University (19-5, 5-1 NJAC) by scores of 7-5 and 8-0 in six innings.

Freshman Charli Czaczkowski (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) went 3-3 with a double and a run while Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) blasted a homer and drove in four of Stockton's five runs in the opener. Four of Stockton's seven hits went for extra bases.

After Kean took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Stockton jumped ahead 3-2 on a three-run homer by Patterson in the top of the second. The Cougars responded with five runs in the bottom of the second for a 7-3 advantage. Four of the runs came on a grand slam by Gabriella Fredette.

Freshman pitcher Nerina Tramp (Blackwood/Highland) came out of the bullpen and pitched 4.1 scoreless innings to give the Ospreys a chance to rally. Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) rapped an RBI double in the third inning to make it 7-4 and Patterson lofted a sacrifice fly in the sixth frame for an RBI that got Stockton within 7-5.

Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) ripped a triple with one out in the seventh inning to bring the tying run to the plate but Stockton's next two batters were retired to end the 7-5 setback. Tramp struck out four batters during her 4.1 innings pitched but was not involved in the decision.

Michaela Luyber (Bordentown/Bordentown) went 1-2 with a double and a walk in the nightcap. Singles by Patterson and Nicole Smith (Mt. Bethel, Pa./Bangor Area) were the only other hits by the Ospreys in the shutout.

Kean scored twice in the first inning and once in the third for a 3-0 count. The Cougars later closed the game with five runs in the sixth inning to end the contest on the run rule at 8-0.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround as the Ospreys get back on the field tomorrow for a home doubleheader against Muhlenberg College that starts at 11 a.m.
