Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University senior
Darren Wan (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the
College Sports Information Directors of America.
Wan received the CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition for the third straight year (2020-22), becoming the eighth student-athlete in school history to be selected three times. He produced a 3.97 grade point average and graduated from Stockton with his master's degree in business administration at the University's commencement ceremony on May 13.
Wan will conclude his outstanding career by competing in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Ohio tomorrow. He is making his third appearance at an NCAA meet after being in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March and hammer throw at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Wan enters the NCAA Championships ranked seventh in the nation with a best throw of 58.12 meters this season. Competing in indoor and outdoor track & field, accumulated four NJAC All-Conference and three USTFCCCA All-Region accolades while competing for the Ospreys. Wan has seven career event wins to his credit as well.
Wan holds a pair of school records. In 2020, he broke the 35-year-old mark in the indoor weight throw and subsequently extended it with a toss of 17.96 meters in March. Last spring, he topped the 15-year-old school record in the outdoor hammer throw and later extended the mark out to 58.17 meters.
In addition to his three CoSIDA Academic All-District kudos, Wan is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual, with a third honor likely coming this summer. He is a 2021 NJAC All-Academic First Team and two-time NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention performer as well.
Next week, Wan will attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis on June 2-5. The event brings together selected student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions for a three-day conference at which they will learn about and explore potential careers in sports, particularly college athletics.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the national ballot, from which CoSIDA Academic All-Americans will be selected next month.
