Stockton Dumped by Rowan in NJAC Tournament

Glassboro N.J. – Stockton University (9-8) saw its 2022 season come to an end with an 18-9 defeat at Rowan University (10-7) in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys were the No. 3 seed while Rowan was the No. 2 seed for the four-team tourney.

Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) scored a team-high three goals for Stockton, followed by Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) with two goals and an assist. Mary Meduri (Brigantine/OLMA) also scored twice in the game.

Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) contributed a goal and a team-high five draws controls while Nikki Owen (Brick/Brick Memorial) also tossed in one goal. Kylie Evans (Marlton/Cherokee) paced the defense with a game-high four caused turnovers.

Shultz offset an early Rowan tally for a 1-1 tie before the Profs went on a three-goal run to make it 4-1. Toal halted the spurt, but two straight Rowan markers forced Stockton into a 6-2 hole with 1:10 gone in the second quarter.

Shultz responded with two goals in a span of 1:11 to cut the deficit in half at 6-4 and give the Ospreys some momentum. The comeback try proved to be short-lived as Rowan potted five consecutive tallies before Pascrell scored with 12 seconds left in the second period for an 11-5 count at halftime.

The host Profs put the game away with four more goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter for an insurmountable 15-5 margin. Meduri scored both of her counters while Toal and Owen added one each the rest of the way but Stockton never got closer than eight during the fourth quarter and its season came to an end with the 18-9 setback.

Stockton goalie Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) played all but 2:36 of the game and made 10 saves, reaching double figures for the third time this season. Molly Green (4 G, 2 A) and Emily Renshaw (3 G, 3 A) paced Rowan with six points apiece.

Stockton finished the season with nine victories, highlighted by a four-game winning streak during the week of April 6-12.
