Rocky Mount, NC – Stockton University (3-2-1) scored a pair of goals in the first half, as the Ospreys defeated North Carolina Wesleyan (2-4) by a 2-1 score on Sunday afternoon.
Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) and freshman
Logan Shaw (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) tallied the goals for the visitors as Stockton finished the North Carolina Wesleyan Classic.
The Ospreys pressed the action early as
Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) fired the first shot of the game, which was saved, just 3:30 into the contest. At the 17:03 mark,
Erica Dietz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) found Bertollo. Her first goal of the season made it 1-0 in favor of the Ospreys.
Just over nine minutes later,
Emily Hauck (Lebanon, PA/Northern Lebanon) sent a ball to Shaw and the rookie made it 2-0 with her first career tally and it turned into the eventual game winning goal.
The Battling Bishops trimmed the advantage to 2-1 at 56:54 on a goal by Caitlyn Butler with an assist from Sam Dell. Stockton tried to pot an insurance marker at 68:56, when Grace Teece (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) hit the cross bar then 14 seconds later, was robbed by the Bishops netminder Anna Yeakey.
Yeakey stopped Shaw in the 75th minute before the home team's Isabel Neall was turned away by Stockton's freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) in the 85th minute to preserve the one goal victory.
Megan Brady (Rockaway/Morris Knolls) started in net for the Ospreys and made one save in 26:03 before being replaced by Keil. Keil kicked out two shots in earning her first career win for Stockton.
Yeakey played the second half, making three saves for the Battling Bishops, after Jordan Fransee started in net and kicked out two shots in the first half.
Stockton will return home for a two-match homestand beginning Wednesday night, when the Ospreys will face Centenary College (NJ). The match will be played at Stockton's Turf Field and will begin at 5 pm.
