Stockton Sweeps Cabrini 3-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-3) played a solid match and ran by Cabrini University (3-4) 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The scores were 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20. Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) tied her career high with 19 kills on the night.
 
The Ospreys started off strong in the first set, jumping out to an 8-4 lead and never trailing from there. The Cavaliers pulled to within one on two occasions but could not push ahead and Stockton took the opening set 25-21.
 
The visitors jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the second frame before the Ospreys rallied to knot the set at 10-10. Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) and Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) posted two of three points. Stockton took the lead at 12-11 and pulled away from there on a 15-8 run, finishing the set 25-18. Witherspoon, Capriglione and Green all had four kills in the frame.
 
Cabrini took control again in the third set, leading 10-7 and forcing the Ospreys into a timeout. The home team would not let up as they started their final push for the match. With the Cavaliers leading 17-16, Stockton ripped off nine straight points with Molly Eng (New Providence/New Providence) serving eight of the nine markers.
 
Eng fed Green for a pair of kills, then Witherspoon followed with a spike. Green had four more kills on assists from Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) for a 24-17 advantage. Cabrini put up three points to make it 24-20 but Stockton was able to close out the match 25-20.
 
Green posted an outstanding .436 hitting percentage in the match and was aided by Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) with seven kills while Capriglione and Witherspoon chipped in with five spikes each. Witherspoon led all players with four blocks. Rentzel dished a match-high 22 assists, with Eng scooping a team-high 15 digs.
 
For Cabrini, Hannah Dalton had nine kills, with Melanie Cotes-Rivera and Taylor Downing leading the team with 11 assists apiece. Same Heenan topped all players with 16 digs.
 
Stockton will take on Drew University on Thursday for their next match. Start time is set for 7 pm.
