Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-2, 8-1 NJAC) used a strong second half to defeat Rosemont College (5-10) by an 86-75 score on Monday afternoon.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led four Ospreys in double figures with a game-high 24 points in the contest. Stockton shot 52.4% (11-21) from behind the arc in the second half that led to 51 points.
Stockton was sluggish during the first 20 minutes of play and the Ravens took advantage. The visitors jumped out to a 14-5 lead at the 13:19 mark before the Ospreys started to climb back in the game. A trio of three-point baskets by
Milo De Los Santos (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) led the home squad to a 21-5 run to take a 24-19 lead with 7:46 left in the half.
Rosemont answered with a closing run of 20-11 to take a 39-35 into the locker room at the break. De Los Santos topped Stockton with 11 points in the first half to keep the Ospreys within striking distance.
The Ravens kept up the pressure, leading by as many as eight points until
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) started to hit from behind the arc. The senior, who hit six from outside the arc in the second stanza, sank a pair of three balls, with Campbell and De Los Santos adding one each to give Stockton a 61-58 lead on an 11-0 run.
Rosemont got to within one at 63-62 with 7:44 to play in regulation, but that was as close as they would come. A pair of three-pointers by
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) and one each by De Los Santos, Flanders and Campbell sealed the game at 86-75 in favor of Stockton.
Campbell added three steals to go with his 24 points. Flanders tallied a season-high 22 markers, including seven three-pointers, with De Los Santos and Anguelov scoring 14 and 10 points respectively to round out the quartet.
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) tied for game high with nine rebounds. De Los Santos and
Jamar Johnson (Penns Grove/Penns Grove) tied for game high with four assists each.
For the Ravens, Zaire Mitchell scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards. Damian Rawls added 14 markers with Jared White and Nick Strain chipping in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Strain also pilfered three steals.
Stockton's next game will be a key NJAC road tilt against Rowan University on Wednesday night. Game time between the top two teams in the NJAC standings is set for 7:30 pm.
