Stockton Holds on for 83-73 Win Over William Paterson

Wayne, NJ – Stockton University (17-3, 11-2 NJAC) survived a hot shooting second half by William Paterson University (9-11, 3-10 NJAC) to hold on for a 83-73 victory on Saturday afternoon. Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) led four Ospreys in double figures with a game-high 25 points.
 
Stockton, who never trailed in the match, jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead on three pointers by Flanders, DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) and a basket by Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing).
 
The Ospreys used solid shooting from the field, hitting 17-39 (43.6%), that included 9-24 (37.5%) from behind the arc. Flanders and Milo De Los Santos (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) scored 12 and 11 points respectively and the duo combined for 7-15 (46.6%) from the three-point line to lead Stockton to a 43-29 advantage at the break.
 
The Ospreys extended their margin to 72-58 at the 8:10 mark before the Pioneers made a final charge. The home team used a 15-7 spurt in just under eight minutes to close within six at 79-73, before Campbell sealed the game with four foul shots to set the final score at 83-73 in favor of Stockton.
 
William Paterson shot a torrid 53.6% (15-28) from the field, that included 7-16 (43.8%) from the three point line to give the home team a chance at victory in the second stanza.
 
In addition to his game-high 25 points, Flanders tied his season-high with seven three pointers. Campbell added 16 points and dished a career-high six assists, with a pair of blocks.
 
Azoroh tallied 13 points, nine in the second half and tied Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) with eight rebounds. De Los Santos rounded out the quartet with 11 points, all in the first half. Dawkins also had five assists as Stockton had 17 assists on their 27 made baskets in the game.
 
For the Pioneers, Tyreek Montgomery scored 19 points, with Shawn Summers, Jr. adding 16 points and a team-high eight boards. Caesar Silvestro also tallied 16 points with six rebounds and two blocks.
 
Stockton will play the second of three straight road games on Wednesday night, when the Ospreys will travel to Newark, NJ to face Rutgers-Newark. Game time is 8:00 pm.
