Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (11-2, 6-1 NJAC) used its depth and balanced scoring to deal Montclair State (11-2, 5-1) its first conference loss of the season, 71-55. All 10 Ospreys who saw action scored, including six players with at least six points in the victory.
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) led Stockton with team highs of 15 points and four assists.
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) contributed 10 points and freshman
Diante Miles (Wildwood/Wildwood) added a career-high nine markers.
Azoroh tied
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) for the team lead with eight rebounds apiece. Stockton's non-starters accounted for 39 of the team's 71 points.
A pair of bench players,
Milo De Los Santos (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) and Miles, paced the Ospreys with eight and six points respectively during a close first half that ended with Stockton holding a 32-29 edge after neither team shot well.
The Ospreys took control in the second half, outscoring Montclair State 39-26 by shooting 50 percent (16-32) from the floor. Dawkins scored the first two baskets to spark a 14-4 run that increased the lead to 46-33.
Another Dawkins layup gave Stockton its biggest lead at 57-39 midway through the half, and the Ospreys cruised from there as they led by double figures for all but 32 seconds the rest of the way for the 71-55 triumph. Dawkins was the star of the second half with 13 points and three assists.
Steven Breeman topped Montclair State with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Amir Williams hit double digits with 10 points.
Stockton will play its first home game in a month when the Ospreys host Kean University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
