Philadelphia, Pa. – Stockton University began the 2023-24 season by competing in two races at the Navy Day Regatta, which was hosted by St. Joseph's University on the Schuylkill River. The Osprey varsity eight rowed in the Women's Collegiate V8 and the second varsity eight was in the Women's Collegiate JV 8.

The varsity eight, under the direction of coxswain Kelley Mason (Manhattan, N.Y./St. Vincent Ferrer), finished 23rd with a time of 15:34.100 for 4000 meters. The Ospreys were one of just two NCAA Division III crews out of 26 in the race that were competing in a predominantly NCAA Division I field.

Five members of the Stockton V8 that rowed at Navy Day were members of the unbeaten V8 crew from last spring. The quintet included Emily Latshaw (Toms River/TR South), Amber Hartzell (Merchantville/Haddon Hts.), Megan Baldwin (Brigantine/Holy Spirit), Marissa Martinelli (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) and Madelynn Schina (Somerdale/Highland).

Those five Ospreys were joined by a trio of returning letter winners from last year in Emily Little (Wildwood/Wildwood), Lexi Kripetz (Clinton/Voorhees) and Emma Dyrsten (Sparta/Sparta).

Lorie Hendricks (Burlington/Doane Academy) was the coxswain for the second varsity eight that finished eighth with a time of 16:07.110 for 4000 meters. Stockton was the lone Division III crew in the field of 10 boats.

Seven of the eight rowers in 2V8 were returnees including veterans Jordan Barikian (Cape May/Lower Cape May), Katie Kurtz (Galloway/Cedar Creek) and Kimberly Canelas (Galloway/ACIT).

Sophomores Erin O'Brien (Edgewater Park/Burlington City), Lex Zang (San Carlos, Calif./Carlmont), Ashley Truesdell (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) and Reese Weirick (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) plus freshman Joslynn Hurley (Epsom, N.H./Pembroke) rounded out the 2V8.

Stockton will compete once more during the fall semester, at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia on October 28.
