Stockton Falls In Overtime

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-4-7) dropped a tough 3-2 decision in overtime to #18 Montclair State (13-2-2) in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament. Katie Ambos (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) and Erica Dietz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) had the goals for the Ospreys.
 
The Red Hawks are ranked #18 nationally by the United Soccer Coaches and were the number three seed in the Tournament against the sixth seeded Ospreys.
 
Stockton opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Ambos potted her third tally of the season and a 1-0 lead, that the Ospreys would hold through the rest of the half.
 
Montclair State scored the next two goals of the game in the second frame to take a 2-1 lead. The advantage would last until Dietz scored her seventh goal of the season with 1:43 left in regulation. Rylee Getter (Galloway/Absegami) dished the assist on the game-tying score.
 
The home team scored the eventual game winning goal 8:29 into the first overtime period and made it stand up to take the 3-2 win and advance in the NJAC Tournament.
 
Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) played 98:30, faced 36 shots and made a career-high 12 saves. Megan Brady (Rockaway/Morris Knolls) finished in net playing the final 11:30.
 
With the defeat, Stockton ends the season with eight wins, an outstanding 0.95 goals against average and 11 shutouts.
