Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-4, 4-2 NJAC) was downed 78-69 by The College of New Jersey (8-3, 4-2 NJAC) in a conference game at The Sports Center. The Ospreys led for most of the first half but relinquished the lead late in the period and never got it back.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) sank four three-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points.
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) hit three threes and contributed 11 markers.
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) had his most productive game yet as an Osprey with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Jalen Collins (Blackwood/Triton) scored nine points and
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Campbell scored 10 points followed by
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) with six and Collins with five as Stockton built a 26-16 lead with just over 12 minutes gone in the game. TCNJ responded by outscoring the Ospreys 24-9 during the last 7:36 of the half, and Stockton was down 40-35 at the break.
The Ospreys shot 6-13 (46.2%) from three-point range and Campbell led all players with 13 points in the first half, but Stockton was outscored 22-8 in the paint and outrebounded 22-16.
Stockton was unable to make up ground early in the second half and the deficit peaked at 13 points, 73-60 with 5:13 remaining. The Ospreys made a charge with a 9-0 run on a three-pointer by Anguelov and baskets by Armstrong-Thomas, Campbell and Collins to get within 73-69 with 2:01 to play.
The rally fizzled as Stockton missed its last three field goal attempts while TCNJ went 5-6 at the line and dealt the Ospreys the 78-69 setback.
Matthew Solomon led five Lions in double figures with 18 points and a game-high 20 rebounds. Nick Koch added 17 points, five rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Stockton will play once more before the holidays as the Ospreys host Eastern University in the Bob Hutchings Memorial Game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
