St. Mary's City, Md. – Stockton University (0-1) opened its 10th intercollegiate women's lacrosse season with an 18-13 setback at St. Mary's (Md.) (1-0), which reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
Mary Meduri (Brigantine/OLMA) led the Ospreys with a team-high five goals.
Mary McLaughlin (Somers Point/Mainland) tallied four goals and two assists for a team-high six points. McLaughlin also compiled three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell) contributed one goal, three assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Ospreys.

Lucy Sullivan (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) helped Stockton forge a 2-2 tie in the first quarter. Freshman
Aubrey Giordano (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) netted her first career goal 41 seconds into the second quarter to give the Ospreys a 3-2 edge.
St. Mary's reeled off five straight goals before McLaughlin halted the run. One more tally by the Seahawks made it 8-4 at the half. Stockton's deficit grew during a 6-2 third quarter in which Meduri and McLaughlin potted the only markers for the Ospreys.
Stockton trailed 15-7 with 12:38 left in the game before making a charge with five unanswered goals. Meduri scored twice while McLaughlin, Marinello and Kutztown University transfer
Lexie Jackson (Barnegat/Barnegat) added one goal apiece as the Ospreys closed the gap to 15-12 with 6:23 to play.
St. Mary's then scored twice to end the rally and the home team went on the down Stockton 18-13.
Stockton goalkeeper
Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) made seven saves while Seahawks' goalie Maddie Clemmer finished with 10 stops. Hailey Betch scored a game-high nine goals for St. Mary's and Colin Horton netted five markers.
Stockton will play its home opener on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Susquehanna University at 4 p.m.
