Auburndale, Fla. – Stockton University (6-6) shut out SUNY Brockport (4-6) 8-0, with five Osprey pitchers holding the Golden Eagles scoreless in the combined shutout. Stockton's first four batters in the lineup combined for nine hits and scored all eight runs.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) led the way with three hits, including a double, and three runs scored.
Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) went 2-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
Freshman pitcher
Antonio Sansone (Middletown/Middletown North) earned his first career win by pitching five scoreless innings in which he struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits. Four Ospreys tossed one scoreless inning apiece out of the bullpen.
Stockton scored two runs in four different innings. The Ospreys took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Novobilsky's RBI double that scored Kaplan and an RBI single by
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) that brought Novobilsky home.
In the third inning,
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) plated Nitti with a sacrifice fly and
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) added an RBI single to make it 4-0. Novobilsky doubled home Kaplan again in the fourth inning, and he later scored on an RBI single by Avagnano.
Stockton sealed the game with two more runs in the eighth frame. Kaplan smacked an RBI double and then scored his third run of the day on a groundout by Nitti that produced an RBI for the sophomore and ended the scoring in the 8-0 Stockton triumph.
Stockton will finish up its eight-game trip to Florida with matchups tomorrow against Cornell College at 9:45 a.m. and Central College at 1:15 p.m.
