Galloway, N.J. – Six Stockton University student-athletes in four different sports earned weekly awards for the week of March 20-26.
A pair of Stockton softball players were recognized as
Jenna Patterson Mullica Hill/Clearview) was selected NJAC Player of the Week and
Jenna Crampton (High Bridge/Voorhees) was chosen NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week. Crampton received a weekly award for the first time in her career.
Two Ospreys from the women's track & field squad, senior
Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) and freshman
Emma Petrolia (New Milford/New Milford) were named NJAC Field Athlete of the Week and NJAC Rookie of the Week respectively after the first meet of the outdoor season.
Senior
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) was tabbed Coastal Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week and junior
Meghan Pellegrino (Somers Point/Mainland) was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse for the first time in her career.
Patterson had a big week at the plate as the softball team won five of six games. The junior batted .429 with team highs of nine hits, 19 total bases and two home runs. Patterson also tied for the team lead with four doubles. Patterson is tied for fourth in the NJAC in home runs (2) and tied for sixth in doubles (6).
Crampton was solid in the circle, pitching in three of the six games last week. The righty won twice, including her first career shutout with a career-high seven strikeouts against King's College in a 7-0 win on Sunday.
Overall, Crampton struck out 13 batters and allowed just one earned run for an outstanding 0.47 ERA in 15.0 innings pitched. The softball team will be home against MIT on Wednesday before opening up NJAC play at Ramapo on Saturday afternoon.
Abraham and Petrolia started their 2023 outdoor season after a superb indoor campaign for the pair. Abraham won out of 30 in the shot put (12.35m) and finished third in the hammer throw (42.78m) and discus (33.55m) at the Stockton Invite on Saturday. Her toss in the shot put qualified her for the Atlantic Region Championships in May.
Petrolia, who became the first Osprey ever to win NJAC Rookie of the Year in women's indoor track & field, led the Stockton women's team with victories in the 400m hurdles (1:08.00) and long jump (4.96m) at the Stockton Invite. The Stockton track & field teams will compete in the Ramapo Open on Friday and Saturday.
Swedlund scored 12 goals last week, six each in wins over Eastern and Misericordia, as Stockton earned a pair of victories. The attack leads the Coastal Lacrosse Conference in goals (5.00 gpg) and points (5.89 ppg). Swedlund is second all-time in Division III with 324 goals for his career.
The men's lacrosse team will travel to Vassar College on Tuesday, before hosting No. 4 Salisbury in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference opener on Saturday.
Pellegrino led the Stockton defense with team highs of eight ground balls and six caused turnovers during a pair of victories last week that extended Stockton's school-record winning streak to nine games. The junior registered three caused turnovers in each game and tied her career high with five ground balls versus Arcadia.
The Ospreys will try to extend their win streak when they host Moravian on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
