Swedlund & Poli Hit Milestones as Stockton Edges Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Stockton University (3-1) erased a 9-7 deficit with five straight goals and edged Maritime College (1-3) 13-12 in the last of four consecutive road games to open the season.

Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) and Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) each hit milestones during the win. Swedlund scored seven goals and became just the second player in NCAA Division III history to reach the 300-goal mark.

Poli tallied two goals and an assist for three points, joining Swedlund as the only two Ospreys ever to achieve the 300-point plateau. He dealt his 134th career assist to move within three of the school record of 137 assists by Rory McPeek (1997-2000).

Swedlund dished one assist to go with his seven goals. Sean Haddock (Hightstown/Hightown) contributed a goal and three assists for four points. Junior Colin Bernstein (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) made his first career start in goal and responded with a career-high 20 saves to earn the win.

Swedlund and Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) gave Stockton a 2-0 lead in the first 1:06 but Maritime held a 3-1 edge during the rest of the opening quarter for a 3-3 tie.  The Ospreys trailed 5-3 and 6-4 in the second quarter before Haddock and Swedlund scored to pull Stockton into a 6-6 tie at the half.

Maritime again built two-goal leads at 8-6 and 9-7 in the third quarter. The Ospreys then exploded for five straight markers. Swedlund and Poli netted the first two, both assisted by Haddock, for a 9-9 tie after three.

Poli opened the fourth quarter scoring and Swedlund followed 45 seconds later. York College (Pa.) transfer Ethan Fought (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) capped the five-goal burst with his first as an Osprey to make it 12-9 with 10:12 to play.

After Maritime ended the run, Swedlund created another three-goal cushion at 13-10 with 5:17 on the clock. The Privateers got within 13-12 with 30 seconds left but Stockton did not allow a shot and held on for the one-goal triumph.

Parker Reilly scored five goals for Maritime followed by Sean Foley with three goals and an assist. Ben McGrady made 16 saves in net for the Privateers.

After four straight road games, Stockton will play its home opener on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Widener University at 7 p.m.
