Stockton Falls to #2 Salisbury 12-4

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (15-11, 3-3 NJAC) took on #2 ranked Salisbury University (22-3) in a non-conference game, falling by a 12-4 score on Tuesday afternoon. Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) led the 11-hit attack with three safeties on the day.

The Ospreys drew first blood in the first inning, when Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) reached on an error to lead off, before Nitti doubled to put men on second and third. Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) hit into an RBI groundout, then Max Kaplan (Wall/wall) singled home Nitti to put Stockton up 2-0.

The Seagulls took control of the contest with three runs in the second and third frame, before another marker in the fifth made it 7-2. Stockton sliced the margin to 7-4 after seven innings on RBI by Nitti and Novobilsky, but that was as close as the Ospreys would come.

Salisbury added five runs in the top of the eighth for the 12-4 final score. Novobilsky extended his hitting streak to eight straight games and drove in his 30th RBI of the season, while catcher Cooper Fiore (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) pushed his on-base streak 15 consecutive games.

Freshman Alfonso Lombardi (Wayne/Cedar Grove), the second of five Stockton hurlers, tossed four innings, scattering five hits and allowing one run while striking out two.

The Seagulls also had 11 hits with three players getting a pair of hits each. Danny Sheeler and Adam Tommer had two runs batted in each in the game, with Sheeler blasting a home run.

Stockton will return to NJAC Play on Thursday when the Ospreys will travel to Camden, NJ to face the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors. The first pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
