Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University freshman
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Country Prep) received the NJAC Rookie of the Week award for women's track and field for the week of April 17-23.
Kass competed in the two-day Widener Invitational on April 21 and 22, where she competed in the 800-meter run, placing seventh out of ninety-eight with a run of 2:12.07. Not only was her time her personal best, but it also broke the previous school record (2:14.93) set in 2011 by over two seconds.
This new best also allowed for Kass to advance among the rankings for the women's 800 meter, where she is now first in NJAC, second in the metro-region, and ninth in the nation.
Prior to participating in outdoor track and field, Kass was a part of the cross country team and the indoor track and field team, receiving honors in both of those as well. During her cross country season, Kass was named NJAC First Team and chosen as NJAC Rookie of the Year after receiving the weekly award four times in the season.
She earned the weekly award two more times during the indoor track and field season, on top of being named NJAC Second Team for the 800 meter and NJAC Honorable Mention in the 4x400 relay.
Stockton track and field competes again this weekend in the TCNJ Invitational on April 28-29.
