Stockton Hits 20-Win Mark in 8-7 Victory

Madison, NJ – Stockton University (20-16, 6-8 NJAC) reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2013, with a close 8-7 win over FDU-Florham (7-29) on Tuesday afternoon. Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) garnered two of the eight hits for Stockton on the day.

The Ospreys jumped out on the Devils with single markers in the first two innings, before putting up a four-spot in the top of the fifth inning. Stockton loaded the bases on a walk and two hits, when Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) drove in one run with a sacrifice fly.

After another base on balls, Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) singled in two more. In the ensuing rundown, Stockton plated another tally for a commanding 6-0 lead. The Devils scored single markers in the fifth through seventh innings, while the Ospreys added one more for a 7-3 margin after seven frames.

Stockton loaded the bases again in the ninth inning and scored on a wild pitch, that turned out to be key in the inning. The home team rallied with four runs in the bottom of the frame, but could not push across another marker, stranding the tying run at first base, as Stockton held on for the 8-7 victory.

Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) and Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) scored two runs each in the game, with Kaplan walking three times and blasting a double.

Stockton used seven different hurlers on the day with Phil Santa Maria (Absecon/ACIT) earning his first win of the season with two innings of scoreless work. Kyle Cipolla (Westwood/Westwood) earned his first save of the year.

Stockton will return home to face #18 Rowan University on Thursday. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
