Stockton Drops Regular Season Finale

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-5, 3-2 CLC) played a hard-fought match but dropped a close 12-10 final to Muhlenberg College (11-5) in the regular season finale on Wednesday night. Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne) tied for game-high honors with four goals on the evening.

The Mules started quickly, potting three straight goals in the first 2:32 of the contest. Capozzoli and Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) answered back for the Ospreys, before Muhlenberg ended the first period with another tally for a 4-2 advantage.

The visitors pushed the lead to 7-3 at the break, tallying three times to offset a goal by Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph).

Poli and Capozzoli hit the net to start the third frame to cut the margin to 7-5, but the Mules scored four times to maintain the four-goal margin at 11-7 after three quarters of play. An early marker by Muhlenberg extended the margin to 12-7 before Stockton rallied one last time.

A goal by Swedlund and two more by Capozzoli sliced the lead to 12-10 with 5:35 remaining, but that was as close as Stockton would come in the two-goal defeat.

Poli added three goals and two assists for a game-high five points on the night. Swedlund chipped in with two goals, with Ryan Anderson (Avon-by-the-Sea/Manasquan) adding a goal and assist.

Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) won 16-26 (.615) faceoffs and scooped a game-high seven ground balls. In doing so, Horvath broke the career record for ground balls at Stockton with his 380th scoop, breaking the mark of 379 set by Eugene Isola (2012-13, 15). The junior also has won 662 face-offs in his career, the first Osprey to eclipse the 600-win mark.

Goalkeeper Colin Bernstein (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) made 10 saves in the loss.

For Muhlenberg, Dominick Visintin tallied four goals, with Jason Metz added three markers. Goalkeeper Max May made 13 saves in earning his 10th win of the season.

Stockton will host a first-round Coastal Lacrosse Conference playoff game on Tuesday May 2. The opponent and time will be determined at the conclusion of CLC play on Sunday.
