Galloway, N.J. – Nine Stockton University student-athletes from four different teams received
College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors in the at-large category, which includes sports such as lacrosse, field hockey, rowing and golf.
Kerstin Axe (Milmont Park, Pa./Ridley),
Rhian Freire (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek),
Amber Hartzell (Merchantville/Haddon Hts.),
Emily Latshaw (Toms River/TR South) and
Madelynn Schina (Somerdale/Highland) were Stockton's CSC Academic All-District Women's At-Large selections.
Men's lacrosse players
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley),
Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South),
Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) and
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) were Stockton's CSC Academic All-District Men's At-Large honorees.
Axe, a senior women's lacrosse player with a 4.0 grade point average, was an NJAC Honorable Mention defender and team captain for the Ospreys. She started all 17 games and amassed 29 ground balls, 14 caused turnover and 14 ground balls to help Stockton to 12 victories, one off the school record, and a 9.35 goals against average that was third in the NJAC.
Freire was a senior on the Stockton field hockey team who compiled a 3.93 GPA. She started all 17 games on defense and made one defensive save this season. A 2021 NJAC Honorable Mention player, Freire also earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and NFHCA National Academic Squad recognition this year.
Hartzell (4.0 GPA), Latshaw (3.95 GPA) and Schina (3.75 GPA), all of whom are juniors, led the Stockton women's rowing team to its best season ever as members of a varsity eight that went undefeated at six regattas this spring, highlighted by gold medals at the Dad Vail Regatta, MARC Championships and Knecht Cup.
Hartzell, Latshaw and Schina were All-MARC First Team selections as well as MARC All-Academic qualifiers this year.
Swedlund, who has a 4.0 GPA in graduate school after a 3.91 mark as an undergrad, finished his career with school records of 354 goals and 427 points. He ranks third in NCAA Division III history in goals and sixth in points as well as tied for ninth in goals per game (3.93).
Swedlund recently became Stockton's first four-time USILA All-America Honorable Mention player to go along with Coastal Lacrosse Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and CLC First Team accolades this season.
Poli, a senior with a 3.56 GPA, was voted CLC Second Team in the final year of an outstanding career that he finished as Stockton's career leader in assists (160) as well as second behind Swedlund in goals (202) and points (362). This spring, Poli led the Ospreys in assists (36) and tallied 48 goals for 84 points. He finished third in the CLC in points per game (4.94).
Capozzoli, a junior with a 3.95 GPA, scored 38 goals this spring to bring his career total to 97 in three years as an Osprey. He also dished 15 assists, totaling 53 points, and added 27 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Capozzoli was chosen CLC Second Team for his play this season.
Smallwood, a junior with a 3.75 GPA, contributed 23 goals and five assists for 28 points while starting all but one of Stockton's 18 games this spring. Last year, Smallwood was a Colonial States Athletic Conference Honorable Mention player in Stockton's final year in the CSAC.
