Galloway, N.J. – Five Stockton University men's lacrosse players received postseason honors from the
Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) in the inaugural season for the league. Graduate student
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) garnered CLC First Team honors and was named CLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Seniors
Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) and
Ryan Anderson (Avon-by-Sea/Manasquan) along with juniors
Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) and
Brenden McSorley (Mantua/Clearview) were selected CLC Second Team.
The five players led the Ospreys to a 12-6 record for the program's 10th straight season with a winning record and eighth straight full season, not counting the COVID years, with a double-digit win total. Stockton finished third in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference behind national powers #2 Salisbury and 34 Christopher Newport.
Starting all 18 games this season, Swedlund scored 75 goals with 13 assists for 88 points. He leads the CLC and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III in goals per game (4.17 gpg). Swedlund also stands fifth in the CLC in points per game (4.89 ppg). He was the CLC Offensive Player of the Week once this season.
Swedlund, a three-time USILA Honorable Mention, finished his outstanding career with 354 goals, which is the Stockton record and second in NCAA Division III history. His point total of 427 also is the Stockton record and fifth in the NCAA record book. Swedlund became the first-ever CLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year as well.
Poli started all 17 games in which he played, scoring 48 goals with 36 assists for 84 points. A CLC Offensive Player of the Week once this season, Poli ranks third in the conference in goals per game (2.82 gpg) and fifth in both points (4.94) and assists (2.11) per game.
Poli, the first player in Stockton history to make an All-America Team above honorable mention (2022 USILA Second Team), joined Swedlund in the Stockton record book as the program's leader in assists (160) to go with 202 goals and 362 points, both second all-time at Stockton behind Swedlund.
Poli is tied for 11th in NCAA Division III history in points. He netted his 200th career goal in the CLC Tournament first round game last night. Poli and Swedlund are the only two Stockton players ever to reach the 200-goal and 300-point plateaus.
Capozzoli started all 16 games in which he appeared and tallied 38 goals plus 15 helpers for 53 points, finishing third on the team in all three categories. Capozzoli netted at least three goals in a game seven times this season. For his career, the junior has 97 goals and 41 assists for 138 points.
Anderson had a fine senior season as a facilitator and distributor on offense, finishing second to Poli with 33 assists to go with 12 goals for 45 points. The midfielder, who received his first career all-conference nod, ranks eighth in the CLC with a 1.83 assist per game average while playing in all 18 games with 14 starts.
McSorley started all 18 games on defense, covering a large swath of space with his 6-5 frame and long reach. The junior caused 19 turnovers, ranking second on the team. He also scooped 42 ground balls and brought his career totals to 80 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers. McSorley notched a career-high three caused turnovers versus DeSales on February 21.
