Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University men's and women's track & field teams each qualified for All-Academic Team honors from the
U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2023 season. The minimum requirement was a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.
The Stockton women's team, under the direction of first-year head coach
Claire Incantalupo, registered a 3.50 team grade point average and the Osprey men's squad, coached by
Jayson Resch, recorded a 3.17 team GPA. The women's team made the list for the 12th consecutive year while the men's squad qualified for the 11th time in the last 12 years.
Along with the team honors, four Stockton women qualified as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes individually. The qualifiers were
Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) for the second straight year plus first-timers
Megan Campanile (Manahawkin/Southern Regional),
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/County Prep) and
Michaela Pomatto (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT).
In order to qualify, competitors needed to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and finished the season ranked in the top 50 in the nation in an individual event or top 35 nationally in a relay.
Abraham finished 19th in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships and 13th in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after breaking her own school record on the final attempt of her distinguished career. The senior was chosen indoor USTFCCCA Metro Region Field Athlete of the Year and NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete.
Abraham qualified for four USTFCCCA All-Region accolades (indoor shot put and weight throw, outdoor shot put and discus) and four NJAC all-conference honors (First Team indoor shot put and weight throw and outdoor shot put, Second Team discus). She also collected five NJAC Field Athlete of the Week awards during the year.
Kass qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in her freshman year and placed 19th in the 800m. She was chosen outdoor NJAC Rookie of the Year and NJAC Rookie of the Week four times overall. Kass was USTFCCCA All-Region in the indoor and outdoor 800m as well as a three-time NJAC all-conference runner (First Team outdoor 800m, Honorable Mention indoor and outdoor 4x400).
Campanile earned USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC First Team kudos in the javelin as well as two NJAC Rookie of the Week nods for the outdoor season. Pomatto collected USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC First Team spots in the discus this spring.
The Stockton women's team finished second at the NJAC Indoor Championships and third at the NJAC Outdoor Championships as well as 13th at the outdoor All-Atlantic Region Championships and tied for 18th at the indoor AARTFC meet.
The Stockton men's team placed third at the NJAC Indoor Championships and fourth at the NJAC Outdoor Championships plus 12th at the indoor All-Atlantic Region Championships and tied for 23rd at the AARTFC outdoor meet.
