Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University baseball team qualified for an ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award from the
American Baseball Coaches Association for the 2022-23 academic year. Nearly 800 teams from high schools, junior colleges and four-year institutions were acknowledged by the ABCA.
The recognition goes to programs coached by ABCA members that posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above for the entire 2022-23 academic year. Stockton was one of 162 NCAA Division III teams that qualified for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award this year.
On the field, the Ospreys won 22 games, just one shy of the school record. They qualified for the NJAC Tournament by finishing in the top six of the league standings for the first time since 2013 (excluding 2020-21 due to COVID) with a young roster that included 14 freshmen and 13 sophomores.
In his fourth season, head coach
Rich Gawlak led Stockton to a 22-20 overall record that included an 8-10 mark in the extremely competitive NJAC. The Ospreys earned their conference playoff spot with a doubleheader sweep on the last day of the regular season to snag the No. 6 seed.
