Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0) opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 victory over Methodist University (0-1). The Ospreys played a strong second half to down a Methodist team that went 16-3-1 and made the NCAA Tournament last year.
Emily Hauck (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) scored the game-winning goal with an assist by
Logan Shaw (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley). The goal came 13:30 into a second half during which the Ospreys controlled the play and outshot Methodist 11-2.
Shaw sent a centering pass from the left wing to Hauck, whose slid a shot from the top of the box inside the right post to snap the scoreless deadlock.
Grace Tecce (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) nearly added to Stockton's lead four minutes later as she fired a shot off the crossbar.
Stockton goalkeeper
Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) earned the shutout with eight saves. Keil notched seven stops in the first half as Methodist outshot the Ospreys 10-3. Stockton survived a scare late in the period when Madison Hoopes lofted a free kick that hit the crossbar.
