Stockton Blanks Haverford 2-0

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-2) made its home opener a success as the Ospreys shut out Haverford College (2-1) 2-0. Stockton earned its first win of the season and dealt the Fords their first defeat. The game began a stretch of three out of four at home for the Ospreys.

Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern Regional) and Kirsten Bailey (Burlington Twp./Burlington Twp.) each scored a goal in the first half to propel the Ospreys to victory. Stockton held a slim 10-8 advantage in shots and successfully defended all 13 Haverford penalty corners.

A pair of newcomers combined for the first goal, which came with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Kiera Lyons (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) centered the ball from the right side and Thompson deflected it into the cage from right in front for her first goal as an Osprey and a 1-0 Stockton lead.

The Ospreys struck again in the final minute of the second quarter, this time on a penalty corner. Ameera Bilgrami (Voorhees/Eastern Regional) fed Bailey, whose shot glanced off a Haverford defender's stick and into the cage to double the advantage to 2-0 with 51 seconds left in the first half.

The goal was Bailey's first of the season and gave Stockton some breathing room. The Ospreys preserved the shutout throughout the second half to collect the 2-0 triumph.

Freshman goaltender Hannah Ayari-Dias (North Caldwell/West Essex) made four saves to earn her first career victory and her first shutout at the college level. In addition to her assist, Bilgrami contributed a defensive save in the fourth quarter to keep Haverford off the board.

Fords goalie Mary Smith also finished with four saves in the game.

Stockton will play next at Eastern University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
