Stockton Extends Win Streak

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-5, 7-2 NJAC) used a balanced scoring effort to run their winning streak to five straight games, and downed New Jersey City (5-11, 2-7 NJAC) 94-74 on Saturday afternoon. DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led four Ospreys in double figures with a team-high 24 points.

The fast paced contest featured numerous runs by both teams early in the first half. Stockton took control of the period with a methodical effort at just about the halfway point. With the Gothic Knights leading 21-17 with 11:06 reaming until the break, the Ospreys outscored the visitors 33-15 the rest of the way, to take a 50-36 advantage into the locker room.

Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) and EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hull/Cherry Hill East) led the charge with nine and eight points respectively during the run. Gaither and Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) topped Stockton with 13 and 11 points during the first 20 minutes of play.

NJCU came back in the second half to run off 15 of the first 25 points in the first 3:30 of the half to close the gap to within six at 57-51 forcing the Ospreys into a timeout. The Knights kept the pressure up chipping away and closing to within one at 64-63.

Campbell hit a three pointer and a trio of fouls shots to give Stockton some breathing room at 70-63 with 9:07 remaining in regulation. Campbell kept up the pace with eight more markers, leading Stockton to a 23-6 run to give the home squad a comfortable 87-69 lead at the 4:44 mark.

The Ospreys were able to run out the clock from there, emptying the bench and capturing the 94-74 victory. It was the fifth time this season Stockton has broken the 90 point mark.

In addition to his point total, Campbell added game-highs of four steals and three blocks in the game. Matthews-Spratley chipped in with 21 markers, while Gaither added 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Anguelov tallied 17 points to round out the quartet of scorers for the Ospreys.
