Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (12-6, 8-3 NJAC) fell victim to a shooting slump that led to a 78-65 defeat at Ramapo College (13-5, 7-4 NJAC). The Ospreys shot a season-low 32.7% (17-52) from the field and saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) and
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) led Stockton with 15 points apiece. Campbell brought his career scoring total to 1,993 points and also dished a game-high six assists. Anguelov sank a team-high three of Stockton's eight three-pointers.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) tallied 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Gaither was 4-6 from the floor and 5-6 at the line.
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) also hit double digits with 11 points.
Stockton struggled right from the start, scoring just two points in the first seven minutes and falling behind 15-2. After trailing by 17, the Ospreys used a 10-2 run to get within single digits at 31-22. Ramapo answered with eight points in a row on the way to a 43-29 count at the half.
The margin was nine at 58-49 on a Campbell free throw and again at 61-52 after a three-pointer by Anguelov with 10:18 remaining. Any chance at a comeback stalled as the Ospreys scored just three points in the next five minutes, and Stockton fell 78-65 with its third-lowest point total of the year.
Peter Gorman paced Ramapo with 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Anthony Corbo and Jordan Myers scored 16 points apiece and grabbed nine and eight rebounds respectively.
Stockton will host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with Campbell seven points shy of joining Carl Cochran (1993-97) as the only Stockton men's basketball players ever to reach 2,000 career points.
