Mahwah, N.J. – Stockton University (12-6, 9-2 NJAC) got off to a great start and stayed ahead for a 61-51 victory over Ramapo College (11-6, 8-3 NJAC) that was the third straight win for the Ospreys. Stockton also tied last year's win total with seven games remaining in the regular season plus playoffs to come.
Grace Speer (Estell Manor/ACIT) led Stockton with a game-high 18 points plus a team-high nine rebounds. Speer went 3-5 (60%) from three-point range and scored at least 19 markers for the third straight game.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) netted 12 points and dealt a game-high five assists while
Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) contributed 10 points and seven boards. Stockton shot 7-12 (season-high 58.3%) from three-point range and 16-18 (season-high 88.9%) at the free throw line.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) sparked the Ospreys to a 19-7 lead with five of her eight points. Stockton shot 50% (7-14) from the field on the way to a 20-9 advantage after one period.
The second quarter began with a Speer three-ball and layup by Fathi to make it 25-9. Ramapo outscored Stockton by seven the rest of the period to trim the Ospreys' lead to 32-23 at the half.
The Roadrunners chipped away throughout the third quarter and made it a one-possession game at 40-38. Three-pointers by Speer and Fathi plus a layup by Deveney-Bethea accounted for an 8-1 run that upped the lead to 48-39 at the end of the stanza.
Stockton led by at least six and as much as 12 during the fourth quarter as they shot 7-8 at the line to maintain the lead and post the 61-51 triumph.
Jada Thompson paced Ramapo with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double. Jackie Ventrucelli and Alison Ahern also scored 10 markers apiece for the Roadrunners.
Stockton will host winless Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
