Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (9-5, 5-2 NJAC) shot 55.7% from the field and produced its highest point total of the season in a 95-81 victory on the road at Montclair State (9-5, 4-3 NJAC). The Ospreys collected their third straight win.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) powered Stockton to victory with a career-high 39 points, the most by an NJAC player in a game this season and second most in Stockton history. Campbell also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the year.
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) shot 5-6 from the floor and 5-5 at the line for 15 points while
EJ Matthews-Spratley (Cherry Hill/CH East) also poured in 15 markers. The Ospreys scored 22 second chance points off 14 offensive rebounds.
Stockton fell behind 27-17 in the first 12 minutes before taking control of the game. Campbell exploded for 12 points followed by four apiece by
Jamar Johnson (Penns Grove/Penns Grove) and
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) during a 24-7 run that vaulted the Ospreys into a 41-34 lead on the way to a 43-39 edge at halftime.
Campbell tossed in 21 of Stockton's 52 second-half points and the Ospreys shot a blistering 65.5% (19-29) from the floor in the period. Gaither scored five markers and Matthews-Spratley sank a three-pointer during an 8-0 run that gave Stockton a 57-45 lead.
The Ospreys led by double digits for all but 19 seconds over the last 15:42 of the game. Campbell's final basket gave Stockton its largest lead at 93-68 and the benches were emptied in the last few minutes of the 95-81 triumph.
Quantavious Rodgers and Mike Jackson paced Montclair with 16 and 15 points respectively. Kyree Henry scored 12 counters for the Red Hawks.
Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at Kean University at 7:30 p.m.
