Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (9-5) led for most of the game and held off a late rally for a 46-40 victory over Penn State Abington (5-10). The Ospreys trailed for less than two minutes in the entire game and scored 21 points off 23 PSU turnovers.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) recorded an unorthodox double-double of 11 points and a career-high 10 steals. Morrone's 10 steals were the second most in Stockton history and two off the school record of 12 by Linda Long in 1992.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) scored eight points while
Skylar Fowlkes (Vineland/Vineland) contributed six markers and a team-high 11 rebounds. Morrone also grabbed seven boards followed by
Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) with six points and six rebounds.
Stockton led 10-8 after the first quarter and broke the game open by shooting 66.7% (8-12) from the field in an 18-10 second period. Fathi scored all eight of her points in the second stanza to spark the Ospreys to a 28-18 lead at the break.
Early in the third quarter, Dulude capped a 7-2 run with a jumper that made it 35-20. The advantage briefly reached 16 late in the period before Stockton took a 39-25 lead into the fourth period.
The Ospreys shot just 1-16 (6.3%) from the floor in the final frame, allowing Penn State Abington to go on a 15-3 run that made it a one-possession game at 42-40 in the final minute. Two free throws apiece by Morrone and
Trina Deveney-Bethea (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) sealed the 46-40 triumph.
Angela Sanders paced the Nittany Lions with game highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Amirah Hackney tallied nine points and five boards for the visitors.
Stockton will be back in action on Wednesday for an NJAC game at Kean University that begins at 5:30 p.m.
