Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (0-1) opened the 2024-25 season with a match at Rutgers-Camden on Friday afternoon. The Ospreys won four of the six matches that were contested, however forfeits proved to be the difference in a 4-3 setback.
Due to an NCAA Division III rule change, the three doubles matches now count as one team point. The squads split on the court, with
Sophia Pasquale (Galloway/Holy Spirit) and freshman
Kim Wash (Shamong/Seneca) winning 6-2 for Stockton.
A Stockton forfeit at No. 3 doubles gave the Scarlet Raptors two out of three in doubles and the team point.
Pasquale blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Wash continued her impressive debut with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 singles for her first college win. Freshman
Arielis Martinez (Millville/Cumberland County Tech) notched her first career win 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
The Ospreys had just four players in attendance and were forced to forfeit the bottom two matches of the singles ladder.
Stockton is scheduled to play once more this fall when the Ospreys face Baruch College at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on October 20 at 4:30 p.m.
