Galloway, NJ – October 22, 2024 – Stockton University (8-7, 1-2 NJAC) fell 2-1 in overtime to The College of New Jersey (10-5, 4-1 NJAC) in a hard-fought contest on Wednesday afternoon.
Stockton showed resilience throughout the game, battling back from an early deficit to send the match into overtime. TCNJ took the lead in the first period with a goal by Isabel Maher, but the Ospreys refused to back down, pressing forward in search of an equalizer.
The breakthrough for Stockton came late in the fourth period when
Carlee Thompson (Gibbsboro/Eastern Regional) slotted home a goal off an assist from
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.), leveling the game at 1-1 with just 4:06 remaining and forcing overtime.
However, TCNJ found the game-winning goal 6:41 into the overtime when Claire Engebreth converted after a penalty corner.
Stockton's defense held strong for much of the game, with goalkeeper
Erika Roura (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) making key saves to keep her team in contention. Roura finished with four stops. On the offensive end, the Ospreys applied pressure with a 9-8 edge in shots but couldn't find the finishing touch in overtime to put the game away.
