Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (21-7) advanced to the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of New Jersey City University (11-16). With their fifth straight win, the No. 3 seed Ospreys moved on to a matchup at No. 2 seed Montclair State University on Thursday.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led Stockton with match highs of 11 kills and 12 digs for her fourth double-double in the last six matches. Louer's 11 kills came on 15 attacks and she committed zero errors for an extraordinary .733 hitting percentage.
Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) and
Rileigh Wilson (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) spiked six kills apiece.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) contributed 19 assists and a match-high five aces while
Kristen Burton (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished 13 assists.
The Ospreys trailed 9-8 in the first set before taking the lead for good with four straight points. Stockton never trailed again in the match. Five players recorded two kills or more as the Ospreys took the opening frame 25-16.
Wilson (5 kills) and Carkhuff (4 kills) led a dominant second set in which Stockton posted a blistering .632 hitting percentage and rolled to a 25-10 rout. Mendick served three aces as well.
Louer heated up with six kills on eight attacks in the third stanza and
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) added three kills and three aces as Stockton cruised to a 25-14 win and completed the sweep.
Brenda Gonzalez paced NJCU with nine kills while Keyanni Overstreet dished 17 assists and Carly Everett scooped 10 digs.
Stockton will play its NJAC semifinal match at Montclair on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
