Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (9-6-6) led the NJAC championship game for 30 minutes but was overtaken late in the match by 12th-ranked Rowan University (12-4-5) and downed 3-1. The Ospreys were seeking their first NJAC title since 2004, which also was their last appearance in the championship game.
Joseph A. Carbone (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) finished off a give-and-go with
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) for his first goal of the season to give Stockton a 1-0 lead with 4:37 left in the first half.
The Ospreys protected the lead for 30:18 and were within 20 minutes of the program's first NJAC championship in 20 years when Rowan tied the game with 19:19 on the clock. Stockton yielded the deciding goal 4:24 later.
Pushing forward in an effort to tie the game, the Ospreys were victimized by a long ball into the box that resulted in a 3-1 deficit with just 5:44 to play. Stockton earned two free kicks in the offensive third plus one corner kick down the stretch but could not rally.
Stockton goalkeeper
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made four saves in the match. His best was a diving stop on a ball tracking just inside the right post three minutes before Carbone gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.
Stockton's run to the NJAC championship game came on the strength of a late six-game unbeaten streak that vaulted the Ospreys into third place in the conference and included two victories in the NJAC Tournament. Stockton finished .500 or better for the sixth consecutive season.
